City Auto Group is proud to sponsor the 9th Annual Ed Murphey Classic, a premier track and field event in Memphis, TN, celebrating world-class athleticism and the legacy of Ed Murphey, a former University of Tennessee track standout. Taking place on July 11th and 12th, 2025, the event promises a weekend of high-level competition, entertainment, and community involvement. The Ed Murphey Classic is once again a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event, making it a must-attend for both sports fans and local supporters.
A Legacy of Excellence
The Ed Murphey Classic is more than just a track and field competition – it’s a celebration of the life and legacy of Ed Murphey. Ed, a dedicated athlete from Memphis, is remembered through this event, which brings together elite athletes from around the world. This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever, with top-tier athletes competing in a variety of track and field events, all against the backdrop of the legendary Beale Street.
What to Expect at the 2025 Ed Murphey Classic
- World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Events: Featuring elite athletes competing in a range of track and field disciplines. These include both Category B and Category F events, with exciting races and competitions in sprints, hurdles, pole vault, long jump, shot put, javelin, and more.
- Youth Meet: On Saturday, July 12th, young athletes will have the chance to compete on the same track as their professional idols, providing inspiration and encouragement for the next generation.
- Beale Street Games: Including the John “Buck” Ewing Beale Street Pole Vault and the Beale Street Murphey Road Mile, which allows everyone from the community to participate in the fun.
Family Fun and Community Engagement
In addition to the competition, attendees can enjoy music, food trucks, beer vendors, and merchandise stalls. After the event, there will be an after-party trackside, complete with a DJ, where fans and athletes can celebrate together. It’s an all-around fun experience for the entire family.
A Focus on Memphis Youth
The Murphey Track Club, whose mission is to empower Memphis youth through track and field, benefits from all proceeds raised at the event. Funds raised from merchandise, concessions, registration fees, and tickets go directly to local youth programs, helping to keep kids engaged in healthy activities. The event also offers free clinics and coaching to youth athletes in the area, providing them with the opportunity to learn from the best.
